Band Program Wish List

GOAL: $35,000

STATUS: Ongoing

FUNDING: The Cause Connector fundraiser through the Foundation of Appalachian Ohio raised $5,000.

THE STORY: The Shadyside High School music and marching band program has always been a point of pride in the community. In the past, it was common to have nearly 100 Shadyside Marching Band members marching at halftime each Friday night in the fall.

The program hopes to bring back those historic numbers and infuse new life into the Shadyside High School music program.

Below are wish list items for the band program.

  • Marimba, Adams Concert Series 4.3 Octave Synthetic Marimba Voyager
    Frame
    • $4,559.99
    • This is the staple mallet instrument that all percussionists should
learn to play in a solo and ensemble setting. We currently do not own
      one.
  • New Music Stands Carton of Six (ten sets), Manhasset
    • $195.00 per carton, $1950.00 total
    • I planned to repair and repaint our current music stands, but several
are broken beyond repair and have graffiti etched into them from
years of misuse. The high school bought new chairs last year and
these would complement and improve the visual appeal and students’
      experiences.
  • Vibraphone, Musser M44 Combo 3 Octave Vibraphone with Concert
    Frame
    • $3,016.99
    • This is a necessary instrument that our percussionists are not
learning how to play on as we do not own one.
  • Portable Sound System, Yamaha STAGEPAS 600BT Portable PA system
    with Bluetooth
    • $999.99
    • We are lacking a quality sound system at Leona. By purchasing this
bundle, events at Leona will be well supported with sound. This
system can also be taken on the road and used within the district for
      outside events.
  • French Horn, Yamaha YHR-567 Geyer Series Intermediate Double French
    Horn
    • $3,485.99
    • The double French Horn is the new industry standard for any horn
player to use, including beginners. Our school currently owns two
single French Horns, which will hold horn players back from playing
      any newer music.
  • Concert Chimes, Musser Classic Chimes 1 1/4 in. Tubes, Brass
    • $3,951.99
    • Our current chimes are at least 50 years old and are held together
using zip ties, rope, and duct tape. This is an instrument often used in
      the concert band setting.
  • Marching Raincoats, Band Shoppe Standard Performer Raincoat (60
    coats)
    • $57.95 per coat, $3,480.00 total.
    • Once soaked, even the nicest of marching uniforms can be
permanently ruined by bad weather. These coats would cover the
entirety of the uniform jacket and most of the overalls with a warm
and waterproof jacket, ensuring the life of the uniform.
  • File Cabinets (x3)
    • $189.00 per Cabinet, $567.00 total.
    • We have a lot of band and choir music that needs more storage, and a
few of our current file cabinets are in rough shape.
  • Marching Band Garment Bags, Band Shoppe Nylon Garment Bag Black
    (60 bags)
    • $22.00 per bag, $1320.00 total
    • The band does not currently own heavy-duty, protective garment
bags for our marching band uniforms. The marching band is the pride
of Shadyside, and we want our uniforms to look their absolute best
      for years to come.
  • Digital Piano for Stage, Yamaha Clavinova CLP-725 Console Digital Piano
    with Bench Matte Black
    • $1,999.99
    • All of our pianos are very old and falling apart. This is a performance quality
instrument that would save the district money in the long run
when considering the cost of tunings and repairs to traditional
      pianos.
  • Baritone Saxophone, Yamaha YBS-52 Intermediate Baritone Saxophone
    • $5,692.99
    • We only have one baritone saxophone that has some mechanical
issues due to its age and use. This instrument is very important in the
concert and jazz setting. Additionally, it would be great to have the
option of having multiple instruments for future growth.
  • Bass Guitar, Squier Classic Vibe 70’s Jazz Bass
    • $429.99
    • It is our dream to rebuild the jazz program at SHS, and we will need a
      bass guitar to do so.
  • Bass Guitar Amplifier, Fender Rumble 25w 1×8 Bass Combo
    • $104.99
    • The school does not currently own a bass guitar amp, a crucial piece
of equipment in a jazz band.
  • Semi-Hollow Body Guitar, Epiphone ES-339 Semi-Hollow Body Electric
    Guitar
    • $499.99
    • The school owns one electric guitar designed exclusively for rock
music. It has both structural and wiring damage and is barely
playable. The cost to repair our current guitar outweighs both the
value of the instrument and the cost of a new one.
