FAO Cause Connector Raises $5,000 for Shadyside Band Program

The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s Cause Connector initiative launched on February 10, 2021, and ran through April 9, 2021.

This initiative connected donors with nonprofit projects making a difference for the causes and communities they care about in Appalachian Ohio. Cause Connector matched donations, dollar-for-dollar, to create an even greater impact on each community’s projects. The Shadyside High School Band Program Wish List was selected for funding through the Cause Connector initiative.

The Shadyside High School music and marching band program have always been a point of pride in the community. In the past, it was common to have nearly 100 Shadyside Marching Band members marching at halftime each Friday night in the fall. The program hopes to bring back those historic numbers and infuse new life into the program.

The Cause Connector fundraiser raised a total of $10,000! The Shadyside High School Band Program will receive $5,000. The remaining $5,000 stays in the I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund so FAO can continue to fund grant programs, like Cause Connector, in the future.

Strategic Direction Visioning Session A Success

Wednesday, April 14, community members met with ms consultants, inc. to begin mapping out a strategic direction for Shadyside’s future. Representatives from the school district, chamber of commerce, Vision: Shadyside, and more were present to discuss the future plans and possibilities of economic reinvention in town.

The visioning session is an intense exercise using unique collaboration tools to bring community leaders together to find common goals and use those common goals to develop action items. Those action items are used to develop a comprehensive plan to advise and guide local government officials and civic leaders. The process will take 3 to 6 months to complete.
